He left the machine behind though. I asked him about it.
"That's not important right now," he said. He gave me his water canteen and some stale bread from his backpack. I could see bright lights coming from the end of the tunnel. As we got closer to the tunnel I can make out other voices shouting. Finally we got to the end of the tunnel. As we crawled out I was greeted by 4 men. Two of them had hard hats on with headlights attached to them. They wore a vest with various tools attached to them. The other two were soldiers. Their uniforms tattered and dirty. The soldiers each held standard issued automatic rifles.
"Glad to see you are alive!" said one of the men in hard hats. "We were gonna leave you behind because we thought you were dead."
"Those reptilians will pay for what they did to our tunnels," said the other man in a hard hat.
"We gotta get out of here and meet up with the rest of the group," said one of the soldiers.
The tunnel had let out to a large room with lights hanging off the ceiling. The ceiling was held up by wooden pillars that seem to snap at any second. There were workbenches scattered around the room with various instruments. The room was dimly lit. None of the lights seemed to work. The only light was from the work light that was set up in a corner and the lights from the hard hats. One of the man in the hard hat was studying a map. "If we take this route," he said. "We can get to the main group faster. We need every second. They are only going to wait for us for 2 hours at most."
"Alright lets go," said the guy that was operating the drill. "By the way his name is Don." he said pointing to the guy with the map. "I am Bean. And the other guy over there," he said pointing to the other guy in the hard hat. "Is Hen. Those two soldiers are Privet Kelly and Lieutenant Spoon."
We headed towards the door to the far right of the room. The door was shut with a metal bar. Privet Kelly removed the bar with much effort and opened the doors. We went down the halls with many rooms. We reached the elevator that seemed too rusty and old to work. It made a horrendous screeching noise as it lifted us up to where ever.
All of a sudden, a large hand with freakishly long fingers and claws reached down from the elevator ceiling. It happened so fast. It grabbed Hen by the head and pulled him up into the dark abyss. Hen screamed as blood gushed down on us. The soldiers pointed their rifles at the ceiling and emptied their magazines. As they did so, more screams can be heard. It wasn't a human scream though. It sounded as if they were shooting at an elephant. Hen's mangled, lifeless body dropped down with a splat. Lieutenant Spoon reloaded and shot a few more rounds into the darkness and the elevator continued to move up. Privet Kelly tried to reload but dropped his magazine in the puddle of blood. His hands shook as he picked it up. "Fuck! those reptilians! They are every where" he shouted.
"Did you get it?" asked Don.
"Yeah, but bastard got away," said Lieutenant Spoon as he examined the darker blood oozing from the ceiling. "We are gonna have to leave Hen's body behind. It will only slow us down."
I tried not to look at Hen's mangled body. His organs were spewing out of his open wound. His eyes were clawed. The smell was awful.
